Catch Rain!

Here is an extra idea for rain week...or for any rainy day all year long! (We finally got rain here yesterday so we were able to do this.) Put cups, buckets, or jars outside to catch some rain! Check on your jars throughout the day and see how much rain has collected in them.

After the rain is over, gather your jars. Talk about the water...How did it get there? Where does the rain come from? How does the rain water feel?

When we first put our jars outside, I wasn't exactly sure what we were going to do with the rain water. Luckily it rained over night so I had some time to come up with a few ideas. (I would love to hear other ideas. Leave a comment and let everyone know what else you and your toddler could do with rain/water!)

You and your toddler can use a ruler and measure how much rain is in each jar. (My almost 4 year old liked this and "got it." My 2 year old used the ruler to stir his rain water!)

You could also dye your rain water and make different colors. We put some blue food coloring in the jar to turn the water blue.

Then added some yellow to make green.

My daughter mixed blue and red and made "purple" which looked more like black to me, but she didn't seem to mind!

I hope everyone is having a great week!
