Felt Board

Here is a fun activity to do/make that your toddler will enjoy. You can make your own felt board, for very inexpensive. I bought a blank canvas from Wal-mart for about $5. (You could use wood or other type of board also). I also bought a couple of yards of blue felt (you could also use black...Wal-mart was out of black when I went). All you have to do is stretch the felt over the canvas and staple it to the back...very simple. This is what you get...

Now for the fun part. You can buy 8.5X11 inch sheets of felt in the craft section of Wal-mart for 20 cents. I always keep a stack of them on hand.

Each week depending on the theme, I make my own little felt shapes that go along with some of the songs or fingerplays. For example, I made these little trucks for truck week...

And these animals to go along with the book, Brown Bear, Brown Bear.

The shapes are not perfect, but we use them on the felt board, when we sing, read books, or do fingerplays. We talk about their colors or count them. My daughter is still pretty young, but she loves to play with the shapes and stick them to the board. It keeps her entertained for a little while!
Once you have the felt board made, there are endless things that you can make.
